Svante Pääbo, a Swedish Geneticist, has been named the recipient of the 10 million Swedish kronor (£867,000) award given by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm on Monday.

According to the official citation from the Nobel committee, Pääbo was awarded the prize for his research on the genomes of extinct hominins, including Neanderthals, and the history of human evolution.
